THE FIRST group of Ghanaian pilgrims for the 2026 Hajj has safely arrived in the holy city of Mecca after spending three days in Medina.
The pilgrims left Tamale on Friday, May 1, 2026, as part of the official airlift organized by the Pilgrims Affairs Office of Ghana (PAOG), led by its Chairman, Abdul-Rauf Tanko Ibrahim. Upon arrival in Mecca, the pilgrims were warmly welcomed and taken to their hotels.
They are now settling in, resting, and preparing themselves spiritually and physically for the Hajj rituals in the days ahead. According to the Communications Directorate of PAOG, all members of the first batch are in good health and have adjusted well to their new environment, with no major issues reported.

Officials say the smooth journey from Medina to Mecca shows the careful planning and strong coordination by PAOG to ensure that Ghanaian pilgrims are safe and comfortable throughout the pilgrimage.
The office has also assured families in Ghana that their relatives are doing well and promised to keep providing regular updates during the Hajj period. Meanwhile, more groups of pilgrims from Ghana are expected to arrive in Saudi Arabia in the coming days as this year’s Hajj activities continue.
