PRESIDENT JOHN DRAMANI MAHAMA.

Nat’l Tymes News Desk

THE NATIONAL Democratic Congress (NDC) has intensified calls for accountability in Ghana’s cocoa sector following explosive revelations by Dr. Peter Boamah Otokunor, Director of Presidential Initiatives in Agriculture and Agribusiness.

Speaking on TV3, Dr. Otokunor firmly stated that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) lacks the moral authority to comment on the current cocoa crisis, citing what he described as gross mismanagement under the previous administration.

According to him, approximately $350 million meant for cocoa rehabilitation was mishandled, with little to no benefit reaching farmers.

He called for swift investigations and prosecution of officials involved in alleged procurement irregularities, stressing that justice is essential to restoring trust in the sector.

DR. PETER BOAMAH OTOKUNOR,  DIRECTOR OF PRESIDENTIAL INITIATIVES AND AGRIBUSINESS.

His comments come amid growing frustration among cocoa farmers, particularly in Amenfi West, where concerns over neglect and lack of accountability have intensified. During a recent engagement, farmers insisted that meaningful reform must go beyond dialogue and include punitive action against those responsible for the sector’s decline.

The NDC maintains that cleaning up the cocoa sector is a necessary first step toward rebuilding Ghana’s agricultural backbone and ensuring farmers receive the support they deserve.
