THE MEMBER of Parliament for South Tongu, Hon. Maxwell Kwame Lukutor, has donated essential medical equipment to the Kpotame Health Center to support the establishment of a long-awaited laboratory at the facility.

The items were officially received by the Director of Health Services, Ms. Mavis Agumeh, on behalf of the South Tongu District Health Directorate. The short ceremony was attended by health officials, community leaders, and residents of Kpotame.
Speaking at the event, Ms. Agumeh, together with the Health Directorate Administrator, Mr. Hotordzie, explained that the need for a laboratory at the Kpotame Health Center had been discussed for many years.
They noted that the facility, which is almost 41 years old, has served the community for decades without a functional laboratory, despite several changes in leadership.

According to them, although previous leaders were aware of the challenge, no concrete action was taken until the request was presented to Hon. Lukutor, who responded quickly and delivered the needed equipment.
In his address, Hon. Maxwell Kwame Lukutor said the new laboratory, once fully operational, will not only serve Kpotame but also provide vital diagnostic services to nearby communities in the Ada East District and other parts of the South Tongu Constituency.
He urged health workers to take good care of the equipment and cautioned against keeping hospital items in private homes. The MP stressed his commitment to ensuring that all funds allocated to health projects under his leadership are used responsibly and transparently for the benefit of the people.
Hon. Lukutor also highlighted other health interventions he has supported in the constituency, including the renovation of the Dordoekope and Agbakope Clinics and the provision of motorbikes to the Xikpo and Besakope CHPS compounds to improve healthcare delivery.

As part of the ceremony, the District Health Directorate formally handed over the equipment to Mr. Picoco Grant Dugbenu, Chairman of the Community Health Management Committee (CHMC) at Kpotame.
The Officer-In-Charge of the facility, Ms. Rejoice Agbota, expressed her appreciation to the MP and the Health Directorate for responding to the clinic’s long-standing needs.
The MP also inspected a newly installed Medical Oxygen Generator (30LPM Super Oxycon) at the health center. The Health Directorate Administrator revealed that Kpotame Clinic is currently the only health facility in the constituency with such a machine.
During the visit, Ms. Agumeh appealed to the MP to assist with the renovation of the clinic’s only staff quarters, which has been abandoned due to its poor condition. Hon. Lukutor assured the gathering of his willingness to support the request and promised to explore possible solutions.
