THE PRINCIPAL of the Nkwanta Community Vocational Training Institute, Bernard Joachim Potakey, has urged Ghanaians, especially the youth, to embrace vocational and skills-based education as a pathway to employment and economic empowerment.
Speaking in an interview with Nationaltymes.com Reporter, Samali Abdul Razak, Mr. Potakey highlighted the growing global demand for skilled labour and described community vocational institutions as a practical alternative to traditional academic education.
He announced that the institute’s first batch of students has successfully completed Proficiency One and is expected to graduate soon, describing the milestone as a major achievement for the institution and the Nkwanta South Municipality, Oti Region.

According to Mr. Potakey, what distinguishes the Nkwanta Community Vocational Training Institute from many others is its internationally recognised certification, sponsored by the World Bank.
He explained that the certification enables graduates to compete favourably for job opportunities both locally and abroad. “This programme equips students with practical, hands-on skills that meet global standards,” he noted, adding that the initiative contributes significantly to closing Ghana’s skills gap.
Mr. Potakey expressed appreciation for the establishment of the institute in the municipality, stating that it has created new opportunities for young people who may not pursue conventional academic routes.

He further called on government and private-sector stakeholders to support the expansion of community vocational training centres across the country to help address unemployment and improve workforce readiness.
“As the job market continues to evolve, skills training will remain essential,” he said. “Vocational education provides the tools young people need to succeed.” Mr. Joachim Potakey concluded by encouraging Ghanaians to support vocational institutions, describing them as critical to building a skilled, productive, and prosperous nation.
