HON. MP, THERESA LARDI AWUNI.

By: Emmanuel Anyigba

MEMBER of Parliament for Okaikwei North, Hon. Theresa Lardi Awuni, has continued her engagement with development initiatives aimed at improving infrastructure and living conditions within her constituency.

Recently, the MP undertook an inspection tour of ongoing projects under the Greater Accra Resilient and Integrated Development (GARID) programme, a $200 million World Bank–funded initiative designed to strengthen flood risk management, enhance solid waste management, and upgrade basic infrastructure within communities along the Odaw River Basin.

The GARID project is expected to bring significant relief to flood-prone areas such as Alogboshie, Akweteyman, and Nima. Key components of the project include the construction of new access roads, primary and secondary drainage systems, installation of street lighting, and extensions to existing water networks.

Hon. Awuni’s involvement in the inspection has been welcomed by residents and stakeholders, who view it as part of broader efforts to address persistent flooding and infrastructure challenges in the constituency.

Nonetheless, the MP has also faced public scrutiny following reports linking her to the blocking of a proposed $150 million loan intended to tackle severe flooding issues in parts of Okaikwei North, a matter that has generated debate among political observers and constituents.
