AS PART of activities to celebrate this year’s World Tourism Day, the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture led a special day tour to some key heritage and ecological sites in the Volta Region to highlight tourism investment opportunities in the area.
Deputy Minister, Yussif Jajah joined sector Minister, Abla Dzifa Gomashie, directors and staff of the ministry, heads of tourism agencies, students from selected senior high schools, and other stakeholders on the trip.

The tour, held under the theme “Tourism and Green Investment”, focused on promoting investment in the region’s tourism potential, while aligning efforts with Ghana’s growing Blue Economy strategy; which aims to sustainably use ocean and water resources for economic growth and improved livelihoods.
Participants visited Fort Prinzenstein in Keta, a major historical site; the Avu Lagoon in the South Tongu District, where they experienced a boat ride and learned about local alcohol distillation using sugarcane; and the Hedranawo Slavery Museum in Ketu South — a site central to Ghana’s slavery history.
Minister Gomashie called on private investors to partner with government to unlock the full potential of the tourism sector, noting that such collaborations can bring much-needed development and jobs to local communities.

World Tourism Day, marked every 27th September, is a UN initiative that promotes awareness of tourism’s social, cultural, political, and economic value. This year’s focus on green investment highlights the role of sustainability in building stronger tourism economies.
