Nat’l Tymes News Desk

A GROUP of concerned members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Krowor Constituency has called for the immediate suspension of the party’s on-going branch elections, alleging irregularities in the electoral process.

The group, identifying itself as Concerned Branch Members, claims the credibility of the branch elections has been compromised and warns that the situation could undermine the party’s grassroots structures if not addressed.

In a statement, the group alleged that names of some branch members had been removed from the electoral register, while new names were added without following due process. They further claimed that many of those added are perceived supporters of the constituency’s Member of Parliament, Hon. Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, and do not belong to the affected branches.

The members also alleged that on June 21, 2026, some individuals were affirmed as branch executives unopposed without the knowledge or participation of branch members.

According to them, this departs from the party’s established practice of conducting open branch elections. They further questioned the legitimacy of some branch structures, claiming that certain branches exist only on paper and may not meet the NDC’s constitutional requirements.

The group also expressed dissatisfaction with the conduct of the election supervision team, accusing the Regional Representative, Madam Delphina Jones, and her three-member committee of failing to ensure a transparent and fair process.

They further alleged that the Chairman of the Constituency Elections Committee, Mike Terkpetey Narh Esq., also serves as an aide to the constituency’s Member of Parliament, a situation they believe constitutes a conflict of interest.

The concerned members are therefore urging the Greater Accra Regional Secretariat and the NDC’s National Elections Directorate to suspend the branch elections pending an independent forensic audit of the constituency’s branch register and structures.

According to them, the audit should verify the authenticity of the register, investigate any alleged unauthorised changes, and confirm that all branches are duly constituted and active.

The group also criticised what it described as short notice given to prospective aspirants, arguing that providing only one day’s notice limited participation and could disenfranchise some eligible members.

The members insisted that their petition is not aimed at attacking any individual but rather at safeguarding the integrity of the party’s internal democratic processes.

“The NDC has always prided itself on being a true grassroots party. The grassroots must therefore be allowed to elect their leaders freely, fairly and without any perception of manipulation,” the statement said.

They also called for the dissolution of the current Constituency Elections Committee and the replacement of Madam Delphina Jones as the Regional Representative overseeing the exercise.

The NDC is currently undertaking nationwide branch reorganisation as part of efforts to strengthen its grassroots structures ahead of future internal elections.

Efforts to reach the Krowor Constituency Chairman, Rev. Benjamin Kwame Danso, the Member of Parliament, Naa Momo Lartey and Madam Delphina Jones for their response to the allegations were unsuccessful at the time this report was filed.
