
DR. DANIEL McKorley, widely known as McDan, has been honored as the Salt Mining CEO of the Year, a recognition that underscores his pivotal role in revitalizing Ghana’s salt industry and advancing the nation’s industrialization agenda.
As the Executive Chairman of Electrochem Ghana Limited, a subsidiary of the McDan Group, Dr. McKorley has transformed the once-underutilized Songor Lagoon into Africa’s largest salt production facility.
Under his leadership, Electrochem Ghana has achieved a production capacity of 650,000 metric tons of salt annually, with plans to increase output to one million metric tons by 2024 and two million metric tons by 2027.
The facility operates at a purity level of 99.99%, meeting global standards and positioning Ghana as a major player in the international salt market.
Beyond industrial achievements, Dr. McKorley’s commitment to community development is evident. Electrochem Ghana has employed over 3,000 local workers, with plans to increase this number to 7,000 as operations expand.
The company has also invested in local infrastructure, including roads, health clinics, schools, and a GH¢3 million interest-free loan scheme to support local businesses.
