Ohio State University Deepens Ties with Ghana Through High-Level Delegation Visit

THE OHIO State University (OSU) hosted a 12-member delegation from the Government of Ghana at its Center for African Studies, marking a significant step in strengthening the Columbus–Accra Sister City relationship and exploring avenues for academic, research, and policy collaboration.

The session commenced with Dr. Kaya Şahin, Vice Provost for Global Strategies and International Affairs, emphasizing OSU’s commitment to fostering international partnerships.

Dr. Ousman Kobo, Director of the Center for African Studies, led the discussions, reaffirming the university’s dedication to expanding its engagement with Ghanaian institutions.

Dr. Mary Awusi, Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Free Zones Authority (GFZA), presented a vision to position Ghana as a globally competitive hub for export-oriented manufacturing, services, and innovation.

She extended an invitation to OSU to collaborate on applied research, technology transfer, business incubation, and policy development, leveraging the university’s academic strengths to drive Ghana’s industrial growth.

Madam Joyce Bawah Mogtari, Special Advisor to President John Dramani Mahama, highlighted the importance of long-term institutional partnerships and educational exchanges in advancing mutual development goals.

Faculty members from various OSU departments contributed to the dialogue, sharing ongoing initiatives and plans in areas such as health equity, agriculture, business, and nursing, illustrating the university’s broad engagement with Ghana.

The meeting also reaffirmed ties with the City of Columbus and initiated a promising partnership between the Center for African Studies and Heart of Ohio Family Health, aiming to enhance healthcare collaboration.

This visit underscores OSU’s ongoing commitment to global engagement and its role in fostering international collaborations that benefit both the university and its global partners.
