HON. VOLTA Regional Minister, James Gunu, recently met with the Volta Movie Makers Association, led by President Mr. Blackmore Anthony Ayivor, to discuss the challenges and opportunities within the region’s film industry.
At the meeting, Minister Gunu acknowledged the significant potential of the local film sector in promoting cultural heritage, empowering youth, and contributing to the region’s economic development.

He commended the association’s creativity and resilience, encouraging them to continue telling stories that inspire, educate, and bring joy to audiences across the region.
The discussion highlighted several pressing issues facing the industry, including limited financial support, inadequate infrastructure, and the need for greater investment.
Stakeholders have previously noted that the Volta Region’s movie industry has remained stagnant due to a lack of financial backing and understanding of the industry’s business aspects.
Mr. Gunu emphasized the government’s commitment to supporting the arts and creative industries, recognizing their role in shaping the region’s cultural identity and providing employment opportunities.
He assured the association of his support in addressing these challenges and exploring avenues for collaboration to revitalize the local film industry.

This engagement forms part of broader efforts by the Volta Regional Coordinating Council to promote the creative arts sector, including recent discussions with other creative arts stakeholders on initiatives such as establishing an annual Creative Arts Festival and creating a regional music and photo arts studio.
The meeting concluded with a mutual commitment to work together in developing strategies that will harness the full potential of the Volta Region’s film industry, ensuring its growth and sustainability for future generations.
