IN A SIGNIFICANT development for local governance, Emmanuel Adotey Allotey has been confirmed as the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the Ga Central Municipal Assembly.

The confirmation took place on Tuesday, 12th May 2025, during a special assembly meeting held at the Municipal Assembly Hall.

Mr. Allotey secured 14 out of 20 votes cast by assembly members, surpassing the constitutionally required two-thirds majority for confirmation. The voting process was conducted under the supervision of officials from the Electoral Commission (EC).

Following the confirmation, Mr. Allotey was sworn into office by the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Hon. Linda Akwele Ocloo, in a ceremony attended by assembly members, traditional leaders, and other stakeholders.

Mrs. Ocloo urged the new MCE to uphold the values of good governance, transparency, and accountability, emphasizing the importance of innovation and inclusiveness in his tenure.

In his acceptance remarks, Mr. Allotey expressed gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama for the nomination and thanked the assembly members for their confidence in him.

He pledged to operate an open-door policy and work collaboratively with all stakeholders to advance the development agenda of the municipality.

Mr. Allotey, who previously served as the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Candidate for the Anyaa Sowutoum Constituency, has been an advocate for community development.

He has outlined plans to address issues such as poor road networks, inadequate street lighting, and drainage systems within the constituency.

Additionally, he has proposed the establishment of an educational fund to support brilliant but needy students and initiatives to empower women and the youth through skills training and microcredit facilities.

The confirmation of Mr. Allotey as MCE aligns with the provisions of Ghana’s Local Governance Act, 2016 (Act 936), which mandates the President to nominate Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) for approval by local assemblies.

As he assumes office, Mr. Allotey is expected to leverage his experience and commitment to community development to drive progress within the Ga Central Municipality.
