HIS EXCELLENCY President John Dramani Mahama of Ghana has taken center stage in the global call for reparatory justice, officially launching the African Union’s (AU) 2025 theme, “Justice for Africans and People of African Descent Through Reparations,” at the 38th Ordinary Session of the AU Assembly.
In a powerful address, President Mahama emphasized the urgent need to mobilize political will, foster international partnerships and secure resources to address historical injustices stemming from colonialism, slavery and systemic racism.
He underscored that the time had come to break the culture of silence and denial that has long surrounded these issues.
“With this theme, we are not just acknowledging the past – we are demanding justice, economic restoration and healing for Africans and the people of African descent worldwide,” President Mahama declared.

The initiative will serve as a blueprint for action, guiding AU member states, global allies and key stakeholders in shaping policies that ensure tangible reparations and racial healing.
As the champion of this agenda, President Mahama’s leadership is expected to drive high-level engagement and strategic collaboration to turn commitments into reality.
This landmark launch signals a defining moment in Africa’s pursuit of justice, with Ghana’s President at the forefront of the movement to reclaim dignity and economic equity for Africans and the diaspora.
