A POTENTIAL violent clash between supporters of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the Assin Central Municipal NADMO Director, Samuel Kwakye, was averted by swift action from the Central North Regional Police Command.

The chaos erupted when NDC youth accused Mr. Kwakye and two associates of stealing 50 packets of roofing sheets, boxes of nails, and other materials reportedly intended for the Municipal Assembly.

The confrontation began when the two individuals were caught loading the alleged items into a tricycle. They claimed to be acting on instructions from Mr. Kwakye. The situation quickly escalated, prompting police intervention. All parties involved, including the NADMO Director, were summoned to the police station for questioning.

In a surprising twist, Mr. Kwakye defended his actions, asserting that the materials belonged to his wife and were being stored in the District Assembly Warehouse for safekeeping. He also denied the quantities being circulated, stating the items consisted of 15 packets of roofing sheets, not 50.

Hon. Ibrahim Abdul Rahman, Assembly Member for Assin Atonsu-Mempeasem Electoral Area, has called for calm, urging the youth to allow the law to address the matter. He also highlighted the need to curb the alleged looting of government assets by outgoing appointees, emphasizing the importance of protecting state resources during political transitions.

The police have since initiated investigations into the matter.
