Recent political developments in our body politics suggest that the main opposition party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has come under attack in a well orchestrated plan to put some of its (NDC) leaders and members not only behind bars but to tarnish their hard won reputation.
The ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) has sought to use the state security apparatus like the Ghana Police Service and the Ghana Armed forces to intimate the NDC from now through to the December 7 General Elections.
It is on record that the National Chairman of the NDC, Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo is at the law court for alleged charges that are not only frivolous but malicious.
It will be recalled that the Secretary to the President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Asante Bediatuo, got the Police CID to invite the National Communications officer of the NDC, Lawyer Sammy Gyemfi under the pretext of investigating a cyber crime.
As if that was not enough, in the last couple of weeks the parliamentary candidate for the opposition party for the Agona West Constituency in the Central Region was arrested for signing checks for two gentlemen who had been arrested for the possession of arms. The question is since when signing a check becomes a crime in Ghana?
In a related issue, the NPP Member of Parliament for the Assin Central Constituency Kennedy Agyapong has dragged the name of Hon Ato Forson into this case by suggesting that he (Ato Forson) was in cahoots with the parliamentary candidate to assassinate the member of parliament for Agona West.
Another case in point is current brouhaha involving the police and some members of the NDC in the Asawase Constituency in the Ashanti region. The anti robbery unit of the Ghana Police Service knows NDC members. All these activities are meant to put fear in the members of the opposition party.
With justifiable curiosity, it is important to find out if the ruling NPP and its foot soldiers acknowledge the fact that power
is transient, and will they be able to stand the fire they are setting now should the table turn come December 7?
People are calling for PEACE during and after this general election but peace cannot be separated from JUSTICE. To secure the peace the country had enjoyed before, there must be a guarantee for freedom and justice for all. This is is not negotiable!
Let’s Rescue Ghana
I Shall Return.
