The former President John Dramani Mahama and Prof. Naana Jean Oppoku-Agyemang have commemorated the 10th anniversary of the late President Prof John Evans Fiifi Atta-Mills on Sunday.
They were accompanied by stalwarts and supporters from the NDC; Mr Mahama joined the family of the late President Atta-Mills at Asomdwee Park to mark the occasion.
Addressing the ceremony, he eulogised the late President Atta-Mills as an honourable and dignified statesman whose shoes can never be filled.
“Professor was an honourable and dignified statesman whose love for his country and his people, was without questions. He was a phenomenon best felt than described. His entry into the pressure cooker and high octane environments, that is, Ghanaian politics was the most opportune development for this country”.
“…..to many of us, he was a breath of fresh air that enabled us to make a clean break from the monotonous acrimonious past, laden with deep-seated divisions. His was a brand of politics and governance, which emphasised the graceful wielding of political power,” he said on Sunday.
Prof Atta-Mills died on Tuesday, July 24, 2012, after serving for nearly four years as President of the Republic of Ghana. He is the first President in the history of Ghana to die while in office.
During the 10th anniversary, at the Asomdwe park, wreath were laid by former President John Dramani Mahama who was accompanied by his 2020 running mate, Prof. Jean Naana Oppoku-Agyemang.
The Member of Parliament for the people of La Dade-Kotopon Constituency in the Greater Accra Region, Hon. Rita Naa Odoley Sowah laid the wreath on behalf of the wife of the late President Atta-Mills, Dr. Ernestina Naadu Mills.
Minority leaders of Parliament, National Chairman of the NDC, family of the late President Atta-Mills, Chairman of the JEA Atta-Mills Memorial Heritage and other stalwarts also laid wreath in his remembrance and honour.
