THE NEWLY elected Presiding Member of the Ayawaso Central Municipal Assembly, Hon. Alexander Kwame Twumasi, has outlined an ambitious vision aimed at transforming the Assembly into a more responsive, trusted and development-oriented institution capable of delivering meaningful progress to residents of the municipality.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Nationaltymes.com, Mr. Twumasi said one of his key initiatives would be the establishment of what he described as a “Responsive and Trusted Assembly”, where the concerns of residents would receive timely attention and appropriate action.
According to him, responsiveness to the needs of the people would be critical to building confidence and trust in the Assembly.
He explained that once residents developed confidence in the Assembly, they would be more willing to do business with it and meet their statutory obligations, thereby improving the Assembly’s internally generated funds (IGF).
The increased revenue, he noted, would in turn provide the Assembly with greater financial capacity to undertake development projects and improve the living conditions of residents across the municipality.
Mr. Twumasi also identified adherence to established guidelines as another important area requiring attention, stressing that both Assembly Members and residents had a responsibility to respect the rules governing the municipality.
He said, greater adherence to the Assembly’s guidelines would promote orderliness, discipline and peace, which were essential ingredients for sustainable development.
The newly elected Presiding Member further emphasised the need for strict compliance with the rules and regulations of the Assembly, insisting that the law must be applied fairly and without discrimination.
He noted that anyone who violated the laws and regulations of the Assembly would be required to face the appropriate consequences, regardless of their status.
Touching specifically on physical development and construction, Mr. Twumasi said residents intending to put up buildings must first obtain the necessary permits from the Assembly.
He explained that the permitting process was important because proposed developments had to be properly assessed and inspected to ensure that they met the required standards and did not pose risks to residents.
Mr. Twumasi also expressed concern about the practice whereby some developers and property owners dumped sand, gravel and other building materials along roadsides during construction.
According to him, such activities often obstruct portions of roads and create unnecessary inconvenience and danger for motorists, pedestrians and other road users.
He said, the Assembly, under his leadership as Presiding Member, would support efforts to ensure that such practices were effectively addressed to create a more orderly and safer municipality.
Mr. Twumasi’s vision therefore centres on strengthening the relationship between the Assembly and the people through responsiveness, accountability, lawful conduct and improved revenue mobilisation.
He expressed confidence that a municipality where residents trust their Assembly, comply with regulations and actively participate in its development agenda would be better positioned to attract investment, improve its infrastructure and accelerate socio-economic development.
As the new Presiding Member settles into office, his stated commitment to building a “Responsive and Trusted Assembly” signals a determination to make the Assembly more accessible to the people while fostering the discipline, cooperation and confidence needed to move Ayawaso Central forward.
