Nat’l Tymes News Desk

THE NATIONAL Democratic Congress (NDC) has directed members seeking to contest parliamentary seats on the party’s ticket to immediately stop all activities that could be seen as campaigning ahead of the official opening of nominations.

The directive was issued by the party’s Functional Executive Committee (FEC) on Tuesday, September 15, following concerns over activities being organised by some prospective parliamentary aspirants in various constituencies.

In a statement, the FEC cautioned prospective aspirants against organising or taking part in meetings, constituency tours, donations, public appearances and other engagements intended, or reasonably perceived, to promote their parliamentary ambitions before nominations officially open.

The party said such premature campaign activities could undermine its unity, cohesion and orderly electoral process. It has, therefore, directed all members involved in such activities to discontinue them with immediate effect.

The NDC further warned that any member who ignores the directive will face disciplinary action and severe sanctions in accordance with the party’s Constitution, rules and regulations.

Regional, Constituency, Branch and other party officers have also been directed to ensure strict compliance and report any breaches to the appropriate party authorities.

FIIFI FIAVI KWETEY, NDC GENERAL SECRETARY.

The FEC said the NDC remained committed to a transparent, orderly and credible process for selecting its parliamentary candidates.

It said the party would, at the appropriate time, officially announce the opening of nominations and communicate the guidelines governing the process.

The party has consequently urged all members to respect its established processes and maintain discipline in the interest of party unity.
