THE NATIONAL Democratic Congress (NDC) has officially launched its roadmap for the election of new constituency, regional and national executives, with the party setting December 19, 2026, as the date for its National Congress to elect its national leadership ahead of the 2028 general elections.
The timetable, approved by the Functional Executive Committee (FEC), also outlines key dates for nominations, filing of forms, vetting, appeals and elections at all three levels of the party’s internal electoral process.
The roadmap marks the beginning of what is expected to be an intense contest for key leadership positions within the opposition party as it reorganises and prepares to challenge for power in the next general election.
According to a press statement signed by the Deputy General Secretary, Barbara Serwaa Asamoah, on behalf of the General Secretary, the party’s constituency executive election process will begin with the opening of nominations from September 15 to 17, 2026.
Aspirants will file their nominations on September 23 and 24, after which vetting will take place from September 25 to 27. Appeals will be heard between September 29 and October 1, while constituency elections have been scheduled for October 24 and 25.
For the regional elections, nominations will open from October 6 to 7, with filing fixed for October 14 and 15. Vetting will follow on October 16 and 17, while appeals will be handled from October 19 to 20. The Regional Youth and Women Conference will be held on November 13, before delegates elect regional executives on November 14 and 15.
At the national level, nominations for executive positions will open on October 20 and close on October 21. Aspirants will have 14 days to complete their nomination forms before filing from November 7 to 9.
The party will vet national aspirants on November 12 and 13, hear appeals from November 15 to 16, organise its National Youth and Women Conference on December 12, and finally hold the National Congress on December 19, where new national executives are expected to be elected.
The NDC said the roadmap is intended to ensure transparent, credible and well-organised internal elections in accordance with the party’s constitution and approved election guidelines.
It urged all regional and constituency executives, aspiring candidates and members to strictly comply with the timetable and all laid-down procedures to guarantee a peaceful and successful electoral process.
The party also expressed appreciation to its members and stakeholders for their commitment throughout its reorganisation exercise, saying the unity demonstrated so far would position the NDC strongly as it works towards winning the 2028 general elections.
