THE Inspector-General of Police, senior officers of the Ghana Armed Forces, personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), the Ghana Prisons Service and other security agencies on Friday joined the La Dade-Kotopon Municipal Assembly (LaDMA), the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) and residents for a two-day clean-up exercise at Tsa-Addo, one of Accra’s flood-prone communities.
The exercise, which began on Friday, July 10, 2026, and ends on Saturday, July 11, 2026, is being led by the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for LaDMA, Hon. Alfredo Nii Anyetei, as part of efforts to reduce flooding and improve sanitation ahead of the peak rainy season.

Also participating were senior officers from the security services, officials of the Assembly, NADMO personnel, Assembly Members and volunteers. Armed with brooms, rakes, spades and cutlasses, they desilted choked drains, cleared refuse and removed weeds from major drainage channels.
The exercise attracted public attention as the Inspector-General of Police and some senior security officers joined residents on the ground, clearing weeds and helping to remove silt from drains.

Speaking to the media, Hon. Alfredo Nii Anyetei said Tsa-Addo was selected as the starting point because it remains one of the communities most affected by flooding whenever heavy rains occur.
According to him, blocked drains and the construction of structures on waterways continue to worsen the flooding situation in the area. “We cannot talk about development when our drains are choked and people are building on waterways. Tsa-Addo needed urgent attention first,” the MCE said.

He disclosed that the second day of the exercise would extend to La Township and other communities within the municipality to ensure a wider impact.
The MCE further revealed that plans are far advanced for the military to support the Assembly in removing illegal structures built on waterways at Tsa-Addo and other parts of the municipality to allow the free flow of stormwater.
He appealed to residents, landlords, shop owners and business operators to support the Assembly’s sanitation drive by keeping their surroundings clean, paying their waste collection charges promptly and avoiding activities that obstruct drains.

Hon. Anyetei also announced that LaDMA would intensify public education on sanitation and flood prevention while deploying more refuse containers to identified hotspots across the municipality.
The two-day exercise forms part of ongoing efforts by the Assembly and its partners to improve environmental sanitation and reduce the risk of flooding during the rainy season.
