THE Parliamentary Committee on Sanitation has held an important meeting with the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) and the Community Water and Sanitation Agency (CWSA) to discuss water supply challenges in fast-growing towns.
The meeting focused on how the two agencies can better work together when small towns grow into fully urban areas with rising populations. In many of these communities, the rapid growth has led to shortages of safe drinking water. The Committee wanted clear explanations on how responsibilities are transferred and managed during this transition period.
The Minister for Works and Housing, Hon. Kenneth Adjei, attended the meeting. Also present was the Chairman of the Water and Sanitation Committee, Hon. John Oti Bless, along with other key stakeholders in the water sector.

During the discussions, the Member of Parliament for Salaga South, Hon. Zuwera Mohammed Ibrahimiah, stressed the importance of strong cooperation between the two agencies. She noted that clear collaboration is necessary to ensure that growing communities continue to have reliable access to safe drinking water.
The Committee reaffirmed its commitment to improving policies and strengthening service delivery in the water sector to meet the needs of Ghana’s expanding urban population.
