THE MEMBER of Parliament for Salaga-South, Hon. Hajia Zuwera Mohammed Ibrahimah, has renewed her commitment to finding a lasting solution to the electricity problems facing communities in the East Gonja Municipality.
She made this call during the launch of the 55th anniversary celebration of Salaga T.I. Ahmadiyya Senior High School on Saturday, February 14, 2026. She stressed that a reliable power supply is important to improve teaching and learning, and to give students equal opportunities across the country.
Speaking to students, teachers, and guests, the MP said it is unfair that students in Salaga prepare for the same national examinations as their colleagues in top schools such as Achimota School and Mfantsipim School, yet continue to face frequent power outages. She described the situation as unequal and called for stronger efforts to close the gap between rural and urban schools.
According to her, stable electricity is no longer a luxury but a basic need for effective teaching, learning, and research. Hon. Hajia Zuwera revealed that her office has been engaging the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition to resolve the long-standing power challenges in the municipality. She also commended President John Dramani Mahama for supporting plans to provide Salaga with its own electricity sub-station.
She announced that arrangements for the construction of the sub-station are underway and expressed hope that the project will bring a permanent solution to the power problem in the area.
The MP also spoke about ongoing development projects at the school. She said there are plans to renovate the ICT and science laboratories to meet modern standards and improve the quality of education. She further disclosed that, after discussions with the Ministry of Education, work has resumed on the school’s dining hall project.
In addition, new projects—including a housemistresses’ bungalow and a new dormitory block—are expected to begin soon to ease accommodation challenges.
Reaffirming her dedication to the people of Salaga-South, Hon. Hajia Zuwera pledged to continue advocating for projects and policies that will improve living conditions in the constituency.

The event brought together several dignitaries, including Yiram Kpembewura Banbange Ndefoso IV, Paramount Chief of the Kpembe Traditional Area; Savannah Regional Minister Hon. Salisu Be-Awuribe; East Gonja Municipal Chief Executive Hon.
Kassim Yazid Rabiu; Deputy Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (Quality and Access), Dr. Issahaque Munawaru; Headmaster Mr. Issahaku Awalu Jahanfo; and NDC Constituency Chairman Mr. Haruna Abdul Aziz.
The anniversary launch celebrated 55 years of academic excellence and renewed calls for fair development and better infrastructure to support quality education in Salaga and nearby communities.
