THE TRADE Minister, Hon. Lawyer Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, has visited the Abossey Okai Spare Parts Market in Accra to promote fair pricing and stop the exploitation of customers by middlemen.
She was accompanied by the Accra Mayor, Hon. Michael Kpakpo Allotey, and the President of the Ghana Union of Traders’ Associations (GUTA), Mr. Clement Boateng. During the visit, the Minister assessed the prices of spare parts and held discussions with traders on the challenges they face in their operations.

Hon. Lawyer Ofosu-Adjare stressed that the government is committed to ensuring fairness and transparency in pricing, especially for goods that directly affect transport costs and the cost of living.
The President of the Abossey Okai Market Association, Mr. Henry Okyere Jnr., raised concerns about the activities of middlemen, locally known as “Affairs.” He explained that these middlemen often inflate prices and create false impressions about traders.

In response, the Trade Minister announced plans to establish a police post at the market to clamp down on their activities. She also encouraged traders to formally integrate the middlemen into their operations.
The Trade Minister commended the traders for their cooperation and assured them of continued engagement with government.

The Accra Mayor also announced plans to create a designated car park along the Agbogbloshie stretch by February 2026 to help reduce congestion at Abossey Okai.
