HON. GRACE Ayensu-Danquah, Deputy Health Minister and MP for Essikadu-Ketan, has called on Ghanaians to embrace the free HPV vaccine as a vital tool in the fight against cervical cancer.

Her comments follow a parliamentary statement by Hon. Comfort Doyuo on the rising cases of the disease.

According to Hon. Ayensu-Danquah, Ghana recorded around 3,000 cervical cancer cases last year, resulting in over 2,500 deaths, highlighting the urgent need for preventive measures.

She emphasized that the HPV vaccine is now freely available to girls aged 9–14, as part of the government’s effort to protect women’s health and reduce cervical cancer deaths.

The Deputy Minister urged parents to ensure their daughters receive the vaccine, stressing that prevention is key. “With the vaccine free and readily accessible, this is a golden opportunity to save lives,” she said.

She also called on educators, community leaders, and stakeholders to support the vaccination program, noting that community involvement is crucial for its success.

DR. GRACE AYENSU DANQUAH, DEPUTY HEALTH MINISTER.

The government, through the Ministry of Health, remains committed to improving healthcare and reducing preventable diseases, and the free HPV vaccination initiative marks a significant step toward safeguarding the health of future generations.
