AS FOOTBALL evolves globally, performance analysis has become a powerful tool for evaluating players, coaches, and teams. Experts say relying on data, rather than emotions or personal interests, is key to improving the game and making informed decisions.
In modern football, performance analysts play a crucial role. They study match data to uncover patterns, guide tactics, and suggest improvements. These insights are based on facts, not feelings; making them more objective and helpful for coaches and players.
In Ghana, however, match analysis is still often driven by emotions or quick judgments. The Loop is calling on football stakeholders—coaches, clubs, journalists, and fans—to embrace a more data-driven approach when assessing team performance.
“We must shift how we evaluate matches, coaches, and players —before, during, and after games,” Lamptey urges. “Our passion for the game is clear, but unchecked emotions, bias, and personal motives can lead to unfair criticism and mediocrity.”
The Loop also encourages sports media houses to train and support journalists in performance analysis to promote fair, informed reporting that uplifts rather than destroys.
With a collective effort, Ghana football can benefit greatly from objective performance evaluation—and build a stronger, smarter game for the future.
