Story: Nana Kwesi ROKA
A GROUP of concerned National Democratic Congress (NDC) supporters from the Ayawaso East Constituency has raised alarm over what they describe as the party’s declining performance in the constituency, citing the alleged non-performance of the current Member of Parliament, Hon. Mac Nasser Toure, as a major contributing factor.
The Member of Parliament, Hon. Mac Nasser remains silent when this portal sent him correspondence through his regular WhatsApp line.
In a strongly worded petition signed by group leader Ismaila Horoya Ali and addressed to the party leadership, the group expressed deep frustration over what they termed the MP’s detachment from the grassroots and failure to engage meaningfully with constituents.
The group noted that despite Ayawaso East being a traditional NDC stronghold, the party has been consistently losing ground, culminating in a disappointing performance in the 2024 elections —even as the NDC made national gains.
Equally disturbing are land grabbing accusations. The MP is said to have controversially claimed ownership of a piece of land belonging to the Chief of the Kotokoli people in Nima. The memo alleges that he used land guards to forcibly take over the land, causing unrest within the Kotokoli community—of which the MP himself is a member. The matter is reportedly now in court, sparking further tension and potentially affecting the NDC’s standing in the area.

Adding fuel to the fire, the MP is also accused of disrespecting grassroots structures of the party. He allegedly ignores invitations from party branches, wards, and social groups, only reappearing during primaries to “bribe his way” to victory, as claimed by the authors.
With rising internal discontent, the memo warns that the MP’s continued actions could cost the NDC dearly in future general elections.
For over a decade, the MP is said to have failed to organize a single forum to account to the people of Ayawaso East. Various community groups report having invited him to public meetings with no success, raising questions about the use of public funds such as the Common Fund, GETFund, and the Health Fund. This lack of transparency is reportedly demoralizing party members and creating political tension.
Invisible in Parliament and Media
Critics say Hon. Mac Nasser Mahama Toure has not made any notable contribution on the floor of Parliament since assuming office, branding him as one of the most ineffective MPs in Ghana.
His silence is said to extend to committee work and media engagements, which party members describe as an embarrassment. There are growing concerns that his public appearances might damage the party’s image due to his lack of oratory skills and avoidance of debate.
MP Reportedly Abroad Without Notice
To compound frustrations, the MP is currently believed to be outside the country without informing constituency executives. While medical reasons have been cited, party members claim this has become a convenient excuse. They are calling on the party hierarchy to intervene, assess the MP’s capacity to serve, and take decisive action.
As calls grow louder for accountability and active leadership, the future of Hon. Mac Nasser Toure’s representation hangs in the balance — with many demanding a replacement who will restore credibility and visibility to Ayawaso East.
“Even in 2024 where the green waves were strong, the NDC lost massively,” the statement read, referencing the general election results to support their claims. A table attached shows that while previous NDC candidates steadily maintained or improved vote margins, the current MP’s votes dropped significantly compared to his predecessors.
The group claimed that Hon. Mac Nasser is virtually unreachable, with petition letters and calls for meetings either ignored or dismissed. “There is no avenue to vent our opinion or get the MP to sit down with us,” the group said. They also alleged that any complaints brought to the party’s constituency and regional executives are often rubbished or ignored.
The group warned that unless party leadership takes urgent steps to address the situation, the constituency could swing further away from the NDC in future elections. They appealed for the selection of a more grounded and engaging candidate—particularly one with strong grassroots and Muslim community ties—for the next elections.
“We pray that leadership will hear our voices and do something about this MP, Mac Nasser, before we learn our lessons the hard way,” the petition concluded.
