THE GHANA Revenue Authority (GRA) has called on the media to partner in promoting tax compliance through enhanced public education.
Speaking at a media engagement in Accra, Dominic Naab, Assistant Commissioet, P&P emphasized the media’s pivotal role in demystifying tax laws and processes.
He urged journalists to assist in areas such as tax education, taxpayer services, simplifying tax laws using practice notes and private rulings, transparent tax audits, and tax amnesty programs.
Mr. Naab highlighted common misconceptions, including beliefs that the GRA imposes income tax on business capital or targets only registered taxpayers. He clarified that these are unfounded and that the GRA aims to broaden and deepen the tax net fairly.

Addressing other misconceptions, Mr. Naab refuted claims that the GRA targets only the wealthy, imposes higher taxes unfairly, or fails to refund overpaid taxes. He also dismissed assertions that upstream oil companies are exempt from taxation.
Mr. Naab concluded by charging the media to aid the GRA in public education efforts, ensuring that citizens are well-informed about tax obligations and the truth behind taxation policies.
