ATESIKA.

Story By: Nana Kwasi Roka

THE Amanase Branch Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Atesika, has appealed to President John Dramani Mahama to urgently intervene in the deteriorating situation surrounding the broken bridge in Amanase in the Ayensuano District of the Eastern Region.

He is calling on the President to direct the Minister responsible for Roads and Highways and the Ayensuano District Chief Executive (DCE) to respond to the concerns of the chiefs and people of Amanase by ensuring that the bridge is reconstructed before the 2028 general elections.

Mr Atesika, who also serves as the Unit Committee Chairman of the area, cautioned government against delaying action until the electioneering period, arguing that such a move could be perceived by residents as an attempt to win political favour rather than a genuine response to their protracted concerns.

According to him, fixing the bridge ahead of the elections would demonstrate government’s commitment to addressing the developmental needs of the people, irrespective of the political calendar.

He warned that allowing the situation to persist until the eve of the 2028 elections could have serious political consequences, as residents might interpret any last-minute intervention as an election gimmick or an attempt at vote buying.

Mr Atesika expressed concern that the broken bridge, which lies in the middle of Amanase and effectively divides the town into two, has become a major source of inconvenience and hardship for residents.

He observed that the situation was not only disrupting the normal movement of people within the community but also undermining the positive interventions and development initiatives of the government in the eyes of the affected residents.

He stressed that the people of Amanase were not asking for political favours but rather demanding a critical piece of infrastructure that directly affects their daily lives, economic activities and general wellbeing.

He further noted that access to essential services, transportation of goods and the movement of residents could become increasingly difficult if the situation remained unresolved.

Mr Atesika made the appeal on the sidelines of preparations towards a planned demonstration by the chiefs and people of Amanase scheduled for Friday, November 13, 2026, to demand the immediate reconstruction of the bridge.

The planned demonstration is expected to serve as a platform for residents to publicly express their dissatisfaction with the prolonged neglect of the bridge and draw the attention of the relevant authorities to their plight.

He indicated that the concerns being raised by the community should not be interpreted as an attempt to undermine government but rather as a legitimate call for responsive leadership and equitable distribution of development infrastructure.

He urged the DCE and the Roads Minister to treat the impending demonstration as an opportunity to engage the traditional authorities, community leaders and residents and work towards a lasting solution.

Mr Atesika maintained that development must be measured by the tangible improvements it brings to the lives of ordinary citizens, insisting that the people of Amanase deserve to enjoy the benefits of governance without having to wait for another election cycle before their pressing infrastructure needs are addressed.

He appealed to President Mahama to personally intervene before the situation further deteriorates, stressing that timely action would help restore public confidence and demonstrate that the concerns of rural communities remain an important part of NDC government’s development agenda.
