THE NATIONAL Democratic Congress (NDC) Government is expected to announce a major economic initiative dubbed the “New Economy” in the 2027 Budget Statement, scheduled to be presented in November.

The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), Lawyer Sammy Gyamfi, gave the hint when he addressed participants at the close of the two-day Loveworld Trade and Investment Forum (LTIF), Accra Edition, held at the Ohene Konadu Auditorium of the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA).
According to him, the initiative is expected to channel about $2 billion annually into strategic sectors of the Ghanaian economy to support production, trade, investment and other areas with the potential to drive economic growth.

Lawyer Gyamfi stressed that the funds would not be borrowed from external sources but would be raised domestically, creating new opportunities for businesses, entrepreneurs and young people.
“The New Economy is actually prophetic for those of us in Ghana. The next big thing that government is going to announce is something called a New Economy. This $2 billion will not be borrowed money but money that we would have raised ourselves,” he disclosed.
He therefore urged participants to pay close attention to the 2027 Budget Statement for details of the initiative.
“I suggest to you that you should pay attention to the 2027 Budget Statement,” he said.

Speaking on the theme, “Build The Future Through Production, Trade, Trust and Innovation,” the GoldBod CEO also challenged African youth to take an active role in transforming the continent’s economy.
“As young people, we must know that we are not future leaders but we are leaders for today. Africa is not the future. Africa is the now. Africa is already rising and many young people are rising with Africa. Do not miss out,” he said.

He further encouraged the youth to identify and take advantage of emerging opportunities in the gold sector, noting that GoldBod offices remain open on Thursdays and Fridays to provide information and guidance to interested persons.
The LTIF Accra Edition was convened by Loveworld Commerce Minister, Madam Stephanie Oforka, and brought together more than 2,000 entrepreneurs and business participants.
