HISTORY was made at Ga Odumasi as the Deputy Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Hon. Rita Naa Odoley Sowah, officially cut sod for the construction of a new modern 24-hour market for the Weija-Gbawe Municipality.
Clad in a beautiful green outfit, Hon. Rita Sowah energetically broke the ground amidst cheers from Nii mei and Naa mei, party executives and residents. Under the big umbrella with the inscription “GA ODUMASI”, chiefs and queen mothers in rich kente and traditional regalia, together with the MCE, Hon. Felix Odartey Lamptey, and other dignitaries, looked on with joy and anticipation.
The new Ga Odumasi Market is one of government’s flagship projects under the 24-Hour Economy initiative of President John Dramani Mahama. The market is designed to provide a modern, safe and well-organized trading environment to end street hawking, boost local economic activity and create thousands of jobs for women and the youth.
Addressing the gathering after the sod-cutting, Hon. Sowah said the project will transform Weija-Gbawe and give traders a dignified place to trade day and night.
“This is not just about building a market; it is about creating opportunities for our people to work and earn income around the clock,” she said.
She urged the contractor to deliver quality and durable work and called on the community, especially the youth, to protect the site and own the project.
The MCE for Weija-Gbawe, Hon. Felix Odartey Lamptey, thanked the Ministry and government for the intervention, noting that the market will improve trading and boost the Assembly’s revenue.
Nii mei and Naa mei of Ga Odumasi welcomed the project and pledged their full support to ensure its successful completion.
