WOMEN in Bowiri Anyinase in the Biakoye Constituency of the Oti Region have received a major economic boost following a donation of bakery production startup items from their Member of Parliament, Hon. Jean-Marie Formadi.
The intervention is aimed at equipping the women with employable skills to make them self-reliant and economically independent.
According to Hon. Formadi, women are often left behind in the development process, with many relying solely on their husbands without any form of income or vocational skills – a situation that perpetuates a cycle of poverty and dependency she is determined to break.
“The bakery items donated will not only create a source of income for our mothers and sisters but will also contribute to the local economy. With the ability to produce for consumption, they can feed their families and supply the entire district and beyond,” the MP stated.
Receiving the items on behalf of the women, the Ankobeahemaa of Bowiri Anyinase, Nana Yaa Asiedua I, expressed profound gratitude to the MP for her continuous support since assuming office.
She described Hon. Formadi as a role model for young girls in the community and an inspiration for them to strive for a better future.
Nana Yaa Asiedua I, however, used the opportunity to appeal to government and stakeholders to help address other pressing needs of the community, particularly potable drinking water and other development projects that could attract investors to the area.
She noted that empowering women is not just beneficial to the individuals but crucial for the development of the entire community and the nation at large.
“This gesture is a reminder that we must uplift and support the most vulnerable in society and give them the tools to create a better future for themselves and their families,” she said.
The Queen Mother called on all stakeholders to see women’s empowerment not as a one-time event but as a continuous effort that requires collective commitment to build a better tomorrow for women in Bowiri Anyinase and across Ghana.
