GHANA will on Saturday, February 28, 2026, mark the 78th anniversary of the historic 28th February Crossroads Shooting Incident with a solemn ceremony to honour the nation’s heroes.
The event will be attended by Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, who will serve as the Special Guest of Honour.
The ceremony will begin at 8:00 a.m. at Nationalism Park, near the Accra Sports Stadium in Osu-Accra.

The day remembers the ex-servicemen who marched peacefully to demand their benefits after fighting in World War II. During the march, they were shot, and some lost their lives. The incident shocked the nation and became a turning point in Ghana’s struggle for independence.
This year’s event is also part of the country’s 69th Independence Anniversary celebrations, under the theme “Building Prosperity, Restoring Hope.” The ceremony serves as a reminder of the sacrifices made by those who fought for freedom and justice.

The government has invited the public to attend and join in honouring the brave men whose actions helped shape the nation’s history.
