A 33-year-old man suspected of taking part in the killing of a police officer has been arrested in the Upper East Region.
The suspect, Abdul-Aziz Iddrisu, also known as Baaluuse, was picked up in the early hours of February 17, 2026, at his hideout in Polego, a suburb of Bolgatanga. The arrest followed a joint intelligence-led operation by the National Police Intelligence Directorate and the Upper East Regional Police Intelligence Department.

Police believe Iddrisu is linked to one of the rival groups involved in the long-running Bawku conflict. He is alleged to have played a key role in the attack on police officers at the Kariminga barrier on December 29, 2025. The incident led to the death of General Constable Seth Oppong Damoah and left two other officers injured.
A preliminary search of the suspect’s mobile phones reportedly uncovered videos and audio recordings showing him with assault rifles and pistols. The materials are said to include requests for more weapons and ammunition to support violence in Bawku.

Iddrisu is currently in police custody and assisting with investigations. Police say efforts are ongoing to arrest other suspects believed to be connected to the attack.
