GHANA has taken a decisive step toward revitalizing its agricultural sector with the launch of the $147.3 million PROSPER Project in Damongo by the Minister of Food and Agriculture, Hon. Eric Opoku.

The initiative forms a core part of Government’s Agriculture for Economic Transformation Agenda (AETA), aimed at repositioning agriculture as a catalyst for national development.

Speaking at the launch, the Minister emphasized that the PROSPER Project is designed to reset and modernize rural agriculture, particularly across nine beneficiary regions. The investment will boost climate resilience, strengthen rural economies, and enhance value-chain efficiency for key commodities.

At the heart of the initiative is its direct support to an estimated 100,000 rural households, with an additional 320,000 expected to benefit indirectly. These interventions will focus on expanding rural infrastructure, improving economic opportunities, and promoting more efficient and sustainable resource management.

A major component of the project involves strengthening local institutions, improving farmers’ market access, and supporting nutrition-sensitive agriculture in alignment with the national Feed Ghana programme. Officials note that these measures will enhance food security while raising household incomes.

The PROSPER Project also places strong emphasis on environmental resilience, prioritizing watershed restoration, tree planting, and the development of climate-smart infrastructure. These efforts aim to protect ecosystems while equipping communities to better withstand climate-related challenges.

Government says the project’s rollout—supported by key development partners—signals a transformative milestone for rural communities, opening a new chapter of inclusive growth, sustainability, and long-term agricultural progress.
