A SHARP wave of criticism has hit Electoral Commissioner Jean Mensa as six major concerns emerge over her handling of key election processes, raising fresh questions about transparency, fairness, and competence at the Electoral Commission.
In a detailed statement, Dr. Valerie Sawyerr questioned what she described as troubling decisions and actions under the leadership of Madam Jean Mensa. Her concerns include the release of three different results for a single national election—something she argues has never happened in Ghana’s electoral history.

She also criticised the EC’s decision to conduct voter registration only at district offices, saying the move breaks long-standing practice and made it harder for eligible citizens to register.
Dr. Sawyerr further pointed to what she called “incompetence” exposed by the EC’s own daily voter registration tallies, which she says revealed inconsistencies that raised questions about the credibility of the process.

Another major issue she raised was the refusal of the EC to allow an audit of the voter register, despite calls from stakeholders who believed the audit was necessary for transparency.
She also accused the EC Chairperson of wrongfully disqualifying the NDC parliamentary candidate for Amenfi Central, claiming there was no proper justification for the decision.
The final concern relates to a court process to lift an injunction on a previously nullified election, which concluded on November 11, 2024—just a month before election day. Dr. Valerie Sawyerr suggested that such late legal actions could undermine election preparations and confidence.

The Electoral Commission has not issued an official response to these claims.
