GHANA’S Vice President, Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, met with the Ghanaian community in Angola after the AU–EU Summit in Luanda.
She was accompanied by the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, and her Political Advisor, Hon. Samuel Ofosu Ampofo. Ghana’s Ambassador to Angola, H.E. Mavis Esi Kusorgbor, hosted the delegation.
The Vice President conveyed warm greetings from President John Dramani Mahama and spoke about the strong historical ties between Ghana and Angola. She reminded the community that this relationship was built on Dr. Kwame Nkrumah’s vision of supporting African freedom, unity, and progress.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang praised the Ghanaian community for maintaining a positive image in Angola. The Ambassador reported zero incidents of wrongdoing since assuming office—a record the Vice President said reflects the discipline and integrity of Ghanaians living abroad. She encouraged all community members to register with the Embassy to receive accurate information and proper assistance when needed.
Touching on national development, the Vice President said the government is focused on improving the lives of all citizens, especially women and children. She noted that Ghana is working toward becoming self-sufficient in food production by taking advantage of its tropical climate and adopting new strategies to ensure food security.
She also stressed the government’s resolve to add value to Ghana’s natural resources instead of exporting them raw. This, she said, will help create jobs, keep wealth within the country, and improve communities.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang assured the Ghanaian community in Angola that the government values their skills, contributions, and commitment to the nation. She emphasized that Ghana’s progress depends on collective effort, unity, and a government that works hand in hand with its people.
