THE DEPUTY Minister of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Rita Naa Odoley Sowah, has commended the people of La Dade-Kotopon for their strong participation in the National Sanitation Day held on Saturday, October 4, 2025.
The clean-up exercise saw massive turnout from the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Alfredos Nii Anyetei, staff from various departments of the La Dade-Kotopon Municipal Assembly, as well as chiefs, assembly members, and residents.

The event formed part of the Clean Ghana Project, a national initiative launched by President John Dramani Mahama, and observed on the first Saturday of every month.
Speaking during the exercise, Hon. Sowah emphasized that poor sanitation poses a serious threat to public health. She explained that the government’s Clean Ghana Project is designed to encourage all Ghanaians to take responsibility for their surroundings and help prevent diseases like cholera, malaria, and typhoid.

“Everyone in La Dade-Kotopon took the clean-up seriously. The youth, unit committee members, and traditional leaders all came together for a good cause,” she said.
The Deputy Minister, also known as Nye Awo Kpe Kpe, praised the youth groups for their energy and commitment to cleaning gutters and removing refuse blocking drains.
She advised residents, especially traders and shop owners, not to open their businesses during the early hours of National Sanitation Day. “It’s just a few hours to clean your surroundings before returning to business,” she stressed, adding that security agencies who are part, will enforce compliance where necessary.

Hon. Sowah encouraged all Municipal and District Assemblies across the country to join the monthly exercise. “Clean Ghana is here to stay. Let’s work together for a healthier and safer environment for all,” she concluded.
