
THE COUNCIL of Elders of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has expressed profound sorrow over the tragic helicopter crash that claimed the lives of eight distinguished Ghanaians, including five senior members of the party and three personnel of the Ghana Air Force.
The deceased were en route to Obuasi for the official launch of the Responsible Cooperative Mining and Skills Development Programme (COMSDEP) when the unfortunate incident occurred.
In a statement released Thursday, the Council described the incident as a national tragedy that has shaken the very core of Ghana’s spirit. The fallen individuals include:
- Hon. Dr. Edward Omane Boamah
- Hon. Dr. Murtala Mohammed
- Alhaji Muniru Mohammed
- Dr. Samuel Sarpong
- Mr. Samuel Aboagye
- Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala
- Flying Officer Twum Ampadu
- Flight Sergeant Ernest Addo
“These eight compatriots were more than just public servants; they were men of honour who embodied dedication, patriotism, and humility,” the statement read.

The Council commiserated with His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, Leader of the NDC, acknowledging the emotional and leadership burden he now bears. It also extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and the entire nation.
“We mourn with you. We stand by you. We pray with you,” the statement added.
The Council further urged all Ghanaians, regardless of political affiliation, to come together in unity to honour the memory of the fallen.

Signed by the Chairman of the Council of Elders, Alhaji Mahama Iddrisu, the statement concluded with a solemn prayer: “May their memories forever be a blessing unto this land they so dearly.
