MICHAEL TETTEH Kwetey has been elected President of the Ghana National Association of Farmers and Fishermen (GNAFF) after a fiercely contested election held over the weekend at the Pentecost Convention Centre in Kumasi Brofoyedru, Ashanti Region.
Mr. Tetteh Kwetey narrowly defeated his opponent, Peter Kwesi Terkper, by just four votes, securing 70 out of the 136 votes cast.
In his victory address, Mr. Tetteh Kwetey described his win as a “renewed moment of strength and life” for GNAFF and called for unity after the election.
He emphasized the vital role of farmers and fisherfolk in Ghana’s development, saying, “No society can ever imagine a future without farmers and fishermen and women.”
He pledged collaboration with government to improve productivity but warned that GNAFF would not hesitate to provide constructive criticism when policies do not serve members’ interests.
Mr. Tetteh Kwetey also announced plans for a national tour to engage directly with farmers and fisherfolk, promising strong advocacy and stakeholder engagement to improve livelihoods.
With a diverse academic background which includes degrees in Energy Law, Oil and Gas Management, Development Communication, and Entrepreneurship, Mr. Tetteh Kwetey said he is well-prepared to lead GNAFF through strategic transformation.
He called on all members, including his opponent, to unite behind a common goal of building a stronger and more effective association.
