
IN A STARTLING revelation from a Ghana Police Service press release dated June 4, 2025, law enforcement officers in the Volta Region have intercepted over GH¢1 million in Ghanaian currency hidden in fertilizer bags aboard a commercial vehicle headed to Kumasi.
According to the release signed by DSP Felix Danku of the Public Affairs Unit, the incident occurred on June 3, 2025, at approximately 4:45 PM when police, acting on intelligence, stopped a Ford Transit Bus at the Juapong Snap Check barrier. Upon inspection, the officers discovered 68 fertilizer bags filled with GH¢1 notes and coins totaling GH¢1,021,700.

The driver of the vehicle, Edward Ansah, was arrested at the scene. During interrogation, he reportedly told investigators he had been contracted by an individual in Kumasi to transport the money from the Volta Region to Kumasi in the Ashanti Region.
The suspect is currently in custody and assisting the police with further investigations.

The Ghana Police Service has assured the public that updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
