SOUTH TONGU Tongu District Assembly has taken a significant step towards revitalizing the agricultural sector in the district with a resolution passed for establishment of an Agricultural Sub-Committee.

This move is in line with the government’s flagship initiative, the FEED GHANA programme, aimed at modernizing agriculture, enhancing productivity, and strengthening value chains.

The Agricultural Sub-Committee will focus on developing and implementing strategies to boost agricultural productivity, improve food security, and increase economic opportunities for farmers and youth in the district.

The Sub-Committee will work closely with the District Department of Agriculture to align local efforts with national initiatives.

HON. SYLVESTER WOYOME DORMENYO.

Hon. Sylvester Woyome Dormenyo, the Assembly Member for Agorta E/A, emphasized the importance of collective action, stating, “The success of this initiative hinges on collective action. We must move beyond rhetoric and deliver tangible outcomes for our farmers and future generations.”

“Agriculture remains the backbone of our economy, yet successive policies have often faltered due to implementation gaps and insufficient political will”.

“…..This Sub-Committee marks a critical reset. We must ensure our farmers are positioned to seize the opportunities under FEED GHANA, from Smart Agriculture to Livestock Development. Accountability and active oversight will be key to sustaining progress.” – he said.

Key areas of focus for the Sub-Committee include; Advancement of SMART Agriculture, Grain and Legume Development, Vegetable Development Project (YEREDU), Institutional Farming Support, Poultry Industry Revitalization Livestock Development, Feed the Industry Programme, Agro-Infrastructure and Production Enclaves, Innovative Agricultural Financing among others.

The establishment of the Agricultural Sub-Committee marks a significant milestone in the district’s agricultural development journey. With collective effort and commitment, the South Tongu District Assembly is poised to unlock the full potential of agriculture and drive economic growth and food security in the district.
