THE GHANA Gold Board (GoldBod) has announced an extension to the deadline for transitioning to the new gold trading license regime.
In a press statement issued in Accra dated May 22, 2025, indicated that the initial date was set for May 21, 2025, but this deadline has been extended to June 21, 2025, following multiple petitions from stakeholders seeking additional time to comply with the new regulations.
The statement further stressed that under the Ghana Gold Board Act, 2025 (Act 1140), all licenses previously issued by the defunct Precious Minerals Marketing Company (PMMC) and the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources have been rendered invalid.
The Act designates GoldBod as the sole authority for the purchase, sale, assaying, and export of gold produced by the artisanal and small-scale mining (ASM) sector in Ghana.
GoldBod further emphasized that while applications for new licenses will continue to be accepted beyond the new deadline, only holders of a valid GoldBod license will be permitted to purchase, sell, or deal in gold after June 21, 2025.
According to GoldBod, utilizing licenses issued by the former PMMC or the Ministry beyond aforementioned date will constitute a punishable offense under Act 1140.
