THE GHANA Airports Company Limited (GACL) has successfully reclaimed over 16 acres of prime land near Kotoka International Airport following a decisive court ruling against subsidiaries of the McDan Group.
Over the week, the Accra High Court granted summary judgment in favour of GACL, restoring ownership of two parcels of land—measuring approximately 10.63 and 5.66 acres—previously held by McDan Shipping Company and Airport Logistics Limited since 2012.
The legal action, initiated in February 2025, cited persistent violations of lease agreements, including non-payment of ground rent totaling 26,296. GACL also sought a permanent injunction to prevent further encroachment by the Dr. Daniel Nii Nsiah McKorley (McDan) subsidiaries.

As part of the ruling, the court ordered the defendants to pay GH¢50,000 in legal costs, affirming GACL’s claim to the properties situated near Action Chapel International.
This development follows a series of disputes between GACL and McDan Aviation.
In December 2024, GACL shut down McDan Aviation’s private jet terminal at Kotoka International Airport over an outstanding debt exceeding 3.9 million, comprising land leases, terminal fees, and rental charges accumulated over time.
Despite McDan Aviation contesting the debt figures and attributing a significant portion to a disputed land acquisition under litigation, GACL maintained its stance, emphasizing the need for full payment.
GACL hailed the court’s decision as a significant step in safeguarding public assets. A source within the company stated, “The repossession of these lands not only safeguards millions of dollars’ worth of state assets but also reinforces our commitment to accountability and lawful management of public property.”
The recovery effort was led by GACL’s Legal Department and Managing Director, Mrs. Yvonne Nana Afriyie Opare, who has been praised for her leadership in reclaiming state property.
With the land now repossessed, GACL is expected to evaluate development opportunities aligned with its long-term airport expansion strategy, including aviation-related infrastructure and strategic partnerships aimed at improving revenue and airport services.
