IN A LANDMARK moment of local governance, Hon. Mohammed Haruna Awal has been overwhelmingly confirmed as the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the Ayawaso North Municipal Assembly.

Following the overwhelming endorsement, the nominee has encouraged the Grteater Accra Regional Minister, Hon. Linda Akwele Ocloo, MP who indicated that the confirmation has ignited confidence in her.
This inspiration came after two (2) rejections of President John Dramani Mahama’s nominees at Ayawaso West Wuogon and Ayawaso Central Municipalities in the region. To this, the Hon. Minister expressed confidence that other municipalities will surely approve the President nominees for their respective Assemblies.

Her prayers for the confirmation of President John Dramani Mahama’s nominees is anticipation of quick efforts to boost local development and community-led initiative transformation.
The eighteen (18) Assembly members of the Municipality, including six (6) government appointees voted overwhelmingly to confirm the President’s nominee, Mohammed Haruna Awal, also an assembly member.

Prior to the confirmation of MCE, the Assembly members gave the nod to one Benjamin Nambila as the Presiding Member (PM) of the Municipality, to help coordinate the MCE confirmation.
Speaking to the media, Hon. Akwele Ocloo commended the Member of Parliament for Ayawaso North Constituency, who doubles as Deputy Tourism Minister, Hon Yussif Jajah for honouring his promise of having the affirmation of the President nominee.
She was also impressed with how the opposition assembly members corporated to have a one touch confirmation of the nominee, Mohammed Haruna Awal as the MCE.
Hon. Greater Accra Regional Minister, and MP, Madam Linda Akwele Ocloo admonished assembly members to emulate Ayawaso North. She was quick to advice the President nominees to try to iron out any differences between them and the assembly members if possible.

She noted that good relationship with the assembly members makes the process smooth. “It doesn’t take anything away from a nominee if he/she knelt down to beg an assembly member for their confirmation”, she posited.
Shai Osudoku MP, and Greater Accra Regional Minister, Hon. Linda Akwele Ocloo has iterated her confident that what she saw in Ayawaso North would be replicated in other Municipal and District Assemblies.
