IN A MAJOR boost for Ghana-UK economic relations, the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Free Zones Authority (GFZA), Mary Awusi Apau Wiredu Lateef, hosted a high-level delegation from the UK Department for Business and Trade at the Authority’s Head Office in Accra on Tuesday, April 15, 2025.
The courtesy visit, held in partnership with the British High Commission, was aimed at deepening trade and investment collaboration between the two nations. The delegation, led by Ms. Giselle Agyare, Country Director for the Department, introduced senior UK trade officials and explored opportunities for strategic partnerships.
In her remarks, CEO Wiredu Lateef shared her vision for the Free Zones Authority, aligning it with President John Dramani Mahama’s national industrialization drive and the transformational 24-Hour Economy Policy. She emphasized GFZA’s focus on attracting targeted investments into priority sectors that can drive sustainable economic growth.
“I am encouraged by the UK’s strong commitment to expanding its business footprint in Ghana,” she stated, while receiving warm congratulations on her recent appointment.
The engagement was marked by candid and forward-looking discussions, culminating in a key agreement to co-host a capacity-building workshop for Free Zone Enterprises. The initiative is designed to help businesses unlock new opportunities under the Ghana-UK Trade Partnership Agreement.
CEO Wiredu Lateef was supported by a high-powered GFZA team, including Ms. Anita Novi Quashie, Director for Marketing and Investment Promotion; Mr. Alhassan B. Ziblim, Director for Administration; and other senior officials who contributed significantly to the day’s dialogue.
“This visit is only the beginning,” CEO Wiredu Lateef affirmed. “We are committed to forging strategic alliances that fuel innovation, investment and inclusive growth for Ghana.”
