IN A DETERMINED effort to clamp down on illegal mining activities, police operations targeting galamsey sites in the Samreboi Forests and along the Tano River have entered Day 4 with significant results.

CONFESTICATED ESCAVATORS.

Authorities report that an additional 21 illegal miners were arrested on Monday at Tano Nimri and other locations along the Tano River. This brings the total number of arrests since the operation began to 47 individuals – comprising 39 Ghanaians, 8 Chinese nationals and 4 Ghanaian women suspected of aiding the operations.

Law enforcement agents have also impounded a cache of heavy mining machinery, including 17 excavators and one bulldozer, as part of efforts to dismantle the illegal operations that have been devastating forest reserves and waterways.

The first batch of 26 suspects has already been transported to Accra, where they are expected to face prosecution. Officials indicate that swift legal action will be pursued to ensure accountability and serve as a deterrent to others.

Security sources have described the raids as “intense and ongoing,” with more arrests and equipment seizures anticipated in the coming days. The operation is being hailed as one of the largest anti-galamsey efforts this year.

Authorities have reiterated their commitment to protecting Ghana’s natural resources and have warned that anyone found engaging in illegal mining activities will be dealt with according to the full extent of the law.

Further updates will be provided as the operation progresses.
