A SWEEPING investigation into the National Service Scheme (NSS) has uncovered a sophisticated kickback network involving top executives, vendors and political figures.
So far, eight suspects have been interrogated, with several cooperating with authorities. Investigators have confirmed that NSS executives received direct payments from vendors and staff, forming a web of financial corruption deeply embedded within the institution.
In a disturbing revelation, sources allege that in November 2024, the NSS Chief Executive Officer and senior officials paid a Member of Parliament to suppress media reports that threatened to expose the scandal.
“The rot runs deep,” a senior investigator stated, pointing to evidence of financial mismanagement, bribery and systemic abuse of office.
The scandal has triggered public outrage, especially among youth and service personnel, as the NSS plays a critical role in national development.
Authorities have signaled that prosecutions will begin immediately after the investigations conclude in mid-April. Asset recovery and criminal charges are expected against several high-ranking individuals.
The case underscores growing calls for stronger institutional checks and bolsters President John Dramani Mahama’s scathing remark that Ghana has become a “crime scene.”
