GHANA joined the world in celebrating International Women’s Day 2025 with a resounding call for gender equality, women’s empowerment and the elimination of violence against women and girls.

Delivering the keynote address, Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, Her Excellency Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, highlighted the country’s progress since the landmark Beijing Declaration 30 years ago while acknowledging persistent challenges such as gender-based violence, child marriage and economic disparities.

The Vice President reaffirmed the government’s commitment to advancing policies that uplift women, including the provision of sanitary pads to schoolgirls to curb dropout rates and sustained advocacy for the Affirmative Action Act.

She also praised the role of Queen Mothers and traditional leaders in championing women’s rights at the grassroots level.

“With strong legal frameworks, accessible justice and a collective commitment to uplifting women and girls, we will move forward as a nation,” she stated.

Her call to action urged all Ghanaians to intensify efforts to ensure a more inclusive and equitable society where women and girls can thrive.
