PRESIDENT JOHN John Dramani Mahama has urged the newly appointed leadership of the Bank of Ghana to prioritize economic policies that focus on the people rather than solely on technical metrics.
At the swearing-in ceremony for Dr. Johnson Pandit Kwesi Asiama as Governor and Dr. Zakari Mumuni as First Deputy Governor, Mr. Mahama emphasized that economic data reflects the realities of people’s lives and livelihoods.
He warned against repeating past errors that resulted in significant job losses during the financial sector clean-up.

“The Bank of Ghana had the chance to save some institutions and safeguard livelihoods while maintaining stability but unfortunately, a strategy that overlooked human impacts took precedence,” Mahama remarked.
As Ghana’s economy grapples with difficulties, Mahama expressed his belief that the new leadership, with their vast experience in financial markets and monetary policy, would play a crucial role in restoring confidence in the banking sector.
