During his swearing-in ceremony on February 25, 2025, Dr. Asiama recognized the significant economic challenges facing the nation, such as soaring inflation, high debt levels and ongoing fiscal deficits.
He stressed that the central bank will be crucial in stabilizing the macro-economy through focused monetary and exchange rate strategies, fiscal discipline and debt restructuring.
“The reset journey we are undertaking aims to restore public trust, rebuild confidence and ensure that Ghana’s economy is stable, innovative and prepared for the future,” he remarked.
Dr. Asiama identified six key focus areas, including enhancing monetary policy frameworks, stabilizing the foreign exchange market, improving financial intermediation, increasing financial inclusion, fostering better coordination between fiscal and monetary policies and addressing the Bank of Ghana’s negative equity situation.
