ON THIS YEAR’s International Clean Energy Day, the Institute of Coastal Climate Change Environmental Protection-Ghana (ICCCEP-GHANA) has made an impassioned call for an accelerated transition to clean energy.
The organization emphasized the critical role of renewable energy in combating climate change, ensuring universal energy access and fostering sustainable development.
While acknowledging the significant strides Ghana has made in the clean energy sector, ICCCEP-GHANA’s Executive Director, Emmanuel Gameli Dovia, highlighted that there is still much work to be done.
The institute urged the government, led by the Minister for Energy and Green Transition and Minister for Climate Change, along with clean energy experts, to collaborate and expedite efforts towards renewable energy adoption.
Barriers and Investment
ICCCEP-GHANA identified barriers such as limited policy support, insufficient investment and affordability as key challenges to clean energy adoption. The institute called for an increase in investments from both the government and the private sector to boost technologies like solar, wind and hydropower.
Additionally, it advocated for the development and implementation of policies that enhance the deployment of clean energy solutions and make them more accessible and affordable to Ghanaians.

A Commitment to Action
Reaffirming its dedication to advancing clean energy development, ICCCEP-GHANA urged stakeholders to work together to identify innovative solutions and promote regulatory frameworks that support the green transition. “We need to create a sustainable energy future for all,” said Dovia.
As Ghana and the world celebrate International Clean Energy Day, ICCCEP-GHANA remains resolute in its mission to champion clean energy as a pathway to a sustainable and prosperous future.
